5 Wardrobe Staples That Every Closet Needs in 2022

The first couple months of the year are the prime time for me to start rearranging my closet and purging any unwanted clothes. This allows me to make room for new clothing essentials that can be worn any time of the year. Plus, it means I can splurge a little bit on pieces that I know will last a long time. So here are the top five wardrobe staples that every closet needs in 2022!

1. Double Layered Hoodie

It’s safe to say that most of us have that favorite hoodie in our closet that serves as a work from home uniform of sorts or just something to wear when lounging around the house. Either way, hoodies are a must-have. But, if you don’t own a double layered hoodie then you’ll definitely want to look into buying one.

Hoodies tend to be single-layered in the body and double-layered at the hood. This makes the hoodie less heavy as you’re wearing, which allows you to layer it with a jacket or coat. However, a hoodie like the much talked about Yeezy Gap hoodie is double-layered with 100 percent cotton all throughout.

The experts at Consumer Reports even estimate that this hoodie in an extra small size weighs about two pounds, 3 1/2 ounces. While it doesn’t have a drawstring like most hoodies, it’s got a large pouch in the front that gives you plenty of room to slip your phone or your hands if you’re not a fan of wearing gloves. Plus, the hoodie is slightly cropped at the waist and oversized for a cozy fit.

To sum it up, this hoodie will keep you warm on those super chilly days and is sturdy enough to last for a long time. While it’s not currently available on the Yeezy Gap website, you can still snag a brand new hoodie for resell prices under $200 on StockX (a worthwhile investment!).

2. Relaxed Fit Denim Jeans

No closet is complete with at least one pair of denim jeans. The best part is they come in a variety of washes (light, medium or dark) to allow you to properly color coordinate your outfits. In a similar way, denim jeans also come in several different cuts and styles to provide a specific type of fit. Now if you don’t own a pair of relaxed fit jeans already, then it’s time to do so.

Relaxed fit jeans are the ideal style if you’re looking for comfort and breathability while wearing denim. One pair in particular you should consider is the Low Pro Women’s Jeans by Levi’s ($69.50). These jeans are inspired by slouchy fit jeans that were a key part of fashion during the 90’s. This pair also sport a straight-leg design that provides the jean with some structure without losing its nonchalant feel.

3. Tote Bag

If you’re like me, tote bags are your everyday go-to item to keep your phone, keys and wallet all in one place while you’re on-the-go. Tote bags come in a variety of fabrics and sizes. So the choice is yours in terms of finding the right tote bag for your wardrobe.

I personally love medium or large-sized canvas tote bags like the Museum of Peace and Quiet’s ‘Naturalist’ Tote Bag ($48). It’s 100 percent cotton similar to the hoodie and made in the US. Plus, it’s 18 inches wide and 11 inches tall—perfect for fitting all of your essentials before heading out the door. Also, it’s fairly easy to clean by placing it on the delicate cycle on its own for both washing and drying.

Now if you’re looking for something a bit more sleek and stylish, it’s worth checking out the Leather Effortless Tote from Banana Republic ($98). This tote bag comes in Black, Caramel and Taupe, meaning that you can buy the one that fits right in with the color palate of your other wardrobe staples!

4. Good Quality Socks

Socks are usually one of the most overlooked wardrobe staples because they’re mostly covered especially if you’re wearing jeans or trousers. So they’re not often the focal point of an outfit. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t treat yourself to good quality socks that provide comfort and support while wearing any piece of footwear.

The Everyday Sock by Comme Si ($26) is a great choice as made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and is medium weight. The Italian-based luxury brand notes that these socks feature a terry cushion footbed and a wide-rib design that hits above the ankle. Plus, each sock has a decorative logo ribbon at the top and the ‘Comme Si’ brand name at the bottom for a stylish touch.

5. Loafers

To finish off any outfit, it doesn’t hurt to invest in a pair of loafers. They’re one of the most perfect pieces of footwear because they’re easy to slip on and great to wear with pants, jeans or a skirt. If you’re not sure which pair to buy, these vegan leather loafers ($55) by eco-conscious brand Lattelier are worth adding to your wardrobe.

What makes these loafers unique is the dynamic square shape, platform-esque height and the gold chain at the very top. The brand recommends sizing one full size than your normal shoe size. Essentially, these loafers will be one of your go-to pieces of footwear all year round!
