Tyrese Gibson is Giving Away $1,000 A Day

Tyrese Gibson is spreading some holiday cheer the best way a celebrity can which is by opening their purse. The actor/singer announced on Instagram today that he will be giving away $1,000 a day to families in need over the next 30 days.

“Proudly I’m in a space right now where it’s no longer about me,” he said in the video. “I’m going to take these gifts, take this opportunities, take this God-given stage and platform and figure out a way to give.”

He added that the money given away this month is coming out of his own personal pocket. However, this isn’t the first time he’s been generous with his wealth. In April, he gave away $1,000 to a producer who could make a creative song using his vocals for the “Ring The Alarm Challenge.”

For this holiday initiative, Tyrese’s long term goals are to set up a college fund for young Black people looking to attend HBCUs. To do this he’s collaborating with Voltron Travel and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Each booking through Voltron Travel’s website will contribute to this fund. He hopes to raise $5 million in 3 years. 

“I believe in giving people wisdom and pouring into them,” he reflected in the video. “Teach a man how to fish and he’ll fish for himself. That’s how I was raised. That’s my motto.”

It’s no secret that the pandemic has put a heavy financial strain on individuals and families. The holidays can add to that burden. So it’s obvious that many families will benefit from this generous act. And this should inspire celebrities and/or those with resources to give year round if they aren’t doing so already.
