10 Easy Tips for Creating Your Ultimate Wedding Guest List

Crafting your wedding guest list doesn’t need to be a daunting task for you and your partner. With the help of 10 easy tips, you’ll have less stress figuring out who gets an RSVP for the big day. Here are pointers on how to create the ultimate wedding guest invite list.

1. Plan as early as possible.

Whether you’re planning a small or large wedding, it’s best to think about your guest list early on. This way you’re not having to panic at the last minute and have difficult conversations with family members. Plus, for both the ceremony and reception, it gives you ample time to narrow down the head count and make a seating chart.

2. Consider talking with supportive family members.

While this day is meant for you and your partner, having family members’ input – as long as they’re supportive and helpful – is beneficial during this part of the process. It gives them a chance to feel involved and offers a look into how well your families come together.

3. Have an open mind.

Be willing to adjust and adapt as you’re creating your wedding guest list since unexpected factors can pop up. This can include needing to reduce the amount of guests to fit your budget or finding a new venue that comfortably accommodates everyone.

4. Keep plus-ones in mind.

Plus-ones are generally reserved for those in the wedding party and guests who are married or have a partner. So, you can maintain that tradition and extend it to any guests who might need assistance with getting around the venue.

5. Track names through a formalized system.

Simply jotting down names on a list isn’t ideal since your guest list will likely need to be changed and tweaked several times. So, stay organized by making a spreadsheet in Excel or using an all-in-one system like Zola to create the list, send invites and track each guest’s dietary preferences.

6. Think about your venue.

If you have a specific venue in mind (and don’t want to tie the knot anywhere else), intentionally tailor the guest list to match the space’s capacity. You’ll have the best of both worlds as you’ll get married and celebrate at your dream venue and have your closest loved ones there too.

7. Debate whether children are allowed or not.

Allowing guests to bring their child is convenient especially for those who would need to find a babysitter for the occasion. However, it’s likely to get nosy and messy if young kids are running around everywhere. So, consider the pros and cons of having children in attendance unless they’re a part of the ceremony.

8. Make adjustments as needed.

A wedding guest list is often updated as the other plans for the occasion are in the works. Hence why, you shouldn’t shy away from making any changes when needed before the list is finalized and RSVPs are sent.

9. Keep the budget in mind.

More people attending means a larger crowd the caterer needs to serve at a reception. Because of this, it’s best to factor in how your budget affects your guest list – and plan accordingly to stay within that magical number.

10. Set boundaries and expectations.

As you’re making the guest list, having in mind any requirements or expectations for the big day ensures it goes smoothly. It also reinforces the people that truly respect and honor you and your partner’s wishes as both start your martial journey.

Ultimately, having a game plan when it comes to figuring out your wedding guest does wonders for creating as memorable of a day as possible!
