“ATLANTA” series recap to get you ready for season 3

Finally, after three long years of waiting, the highly anticipated season 3 television series ATLANTA, will be memorable. We’ve put together a short recap to get you ready.

ATLANTA is the brain child of world renown artist/actor Donald Glover AKA “Childish Gambino”. The multi-talented writer created a framework many screen writers can only dream about and set the tone for what Black art can and will be in the future. While film artists scramble at the bare line of trauma porn and slave exploitation films, Glover highlights black life, struggle, determination, joy, and sorrow. Each episode flows in emotion reminiscent of Stevie Wonders “Innervisions.”

Here are some of the season characters and recap for the highly anticipated March 22nd premiere

Earn: The main character and Princeton drop-out. In an on again/off again relationship with the mother of his child, Van.

Paper Boi (Alfred) : Self made local rapper. Wise, thorough, and street smart.

Vanessa (Van): Intelligent, motivated, and seeking deeper meaning in life along with a stable career.

Darius: Recluse and philosophical weed enthusiast, close friend of Alfred

Most importantly, seasons 1 & 2 were foundational. Earn shoots his shot at becoming Paper Boi’s manager, and proves himself somewhat capable of the job. Paper Boi struggles through his new found popularity that comes from the art of rap. Van learns definitive lessons that impact who she is at her core. Together these characters navigate what success truly means in this world and how to work for it.

The season 3 trailer appears to take place during Paper Boi’s European tour. All four characters appear to be enjoying their time in Europe while also experiencing surprising aspects of themselves due to the new found lifestyle. One memorable moment of the montage features Paper Boi at a panel discussion where one panelist predicts racism will end by 2024. Moreover, this kind of delusion could be a foreshadowing of some themes present in the season to come.

Three years is a long time to wait, but better late than never for the highly anticipated season 3.

ATLANTA seasons 1 & 2 are available to watch on HULU and recap to get you ready for the brilliance ahead.
