2020 has been a year full of twists and turns. The highlight of it perhaps being the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement during the course of a global pandemic. We will never return to the old normal, but are creating “new normal’s” for our lives every day in more ways than one. Style should be one of them. You may not have had the opportunity to reflect on what to wear or where you may be able to wear it in the wake of all that we have experienced thus far in the first 6 months of this year; but don’t you worry. I’ve gathered a list for you of some of my favorite trends that can easily be made your favorite too. Oh, and I’ve done you the favor of including some of my favorite Black-owned brands throughout the list, as well. I got you, girl. This “new normal” isn’t ready for you!
Two-Piece Sets
Two-piece sets are a no-brainer look. Whether it’s a top and pants, top and skirt or top and shorts–all that’s left to you is accessorizing. You can even skip that step and let the outfit speak for itself! Trust me these sets always have enough to say on their own. They’re easy, simple and sweet, but will still have everybody stopping to complement you, if not coveting your look. (Pro Tip: To get more looks than one out of your two-piece set, try layering, or mixing and matching the separates with other pieces in your closet!)

Platform Sandal
My favorite rendition of the platform sandal is that inspired by the 90’s throwback version as seen below in the Brother Vellies style. However, you can find your favorite platform sandal, also known as a flatform, with an espadrille sole, monotone sole or even in a bit more utilitarian of a style such as in the Doc Marten’s flatform.

Prints
We love a good print! Prints are another great way to make a bold statement without too much effort. Whether it’s in dress form, or even in the aforementioned two-piece set, you really can’t go wrong.

The Bermuda
The Bermuda has made a comeback as well. We truly are in the heart of a new normal, aren’t we!? I bet you never thought of trying this look in leather, such as in these camel-colored Topshop shorts shown below. Have you? Or how about this cute bargain deal from Target for an easy pop of color?

Mini Bags
Pack light, Darlings. You can find a mini bag to carry all of your essentials in a range of prices from designer to local. Check out the Black-woman owned ShyDiva Co. as a local option with styles and colors galore!

No matter how you take to the streets, with picket sign in hand or to withdraw down the shore this summer, remember your power lies within. We just have fun dressing it up. So, take these looks and charge into your “new normal” with style!
