Bluey ‘Surprise’ Episode Teases Time Jump for Fans

The popular kids’ cartoon, “Bluey”, released a surprise final episode titled “Surprise” following its supposed season finale. Fans have been speculating whether or not the suspected season finale was also a series finale. Yet, the release of “Surprise” teases a time jump that will  explore various aspects of aging and adulting.

Despite “Bluey” being a children’s show, there are also lessons that parents can take away from. The most recent episode displays elements that parents can relate to and introduces children to the challenges that come with parenting. Similarly to Sesame Street, Bluey is following in the path of entertaining children while providing them with valuable life lessons.

The episode “Surprise” is formatted as a seven-minute episode, similarly to its typical episodes. Bluey and Bingo approach their father Bandit and request to play two different games, respectively. As Bandit navigates playing with both of his children, the show displays the challenges of parenting multiple children. Bandit finds himself struggling to keep up with his daughters as he tries to watch a race on TV. This is something many sports fans with children can relate to. Additionally, Bingo brings up the topic of babies, and displays interests in mothering like many little girls do with dolls.

Through taking time for daughters, Bandit shows parents that it’s possible to be present and patient with your children. Additionally, by engaging in Bingo’s interests in mothering, he allows her to go through a normal phase of growing up. Towards the end of the episode, we see Bluey joining in on playing house with her father and sister.

The biggest reveal of the episode comes during the last few seconds of the episode. Bluey returns to the house significantly older, implying a future time jump. And if you missed it, as Bandit is standing at the front door with a little dog hiding behind the door. This may potentially be Bluey or Bingo’s future child.

As fans old and young continue to wonder if there will be a future for Bluey and her family. Hopefully “Surprise” marks the beginning of a new chapter for the show. British reporter, Stuart Heritage, expects the future of the show to take on a new format following the season finale. Ideally it will be a format that continues to appeal to both children and parents, with regard to relatable experiences and life lessons.
