Michael B. Jordan Is Ready to Pull Off Hollywood’s Most Stylish Heist in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’

Michael B. Jordan isn’t simply one of Hollywood’s biggest stars-he is proving to be the most lucrative. After breaking out in “Fruitvale Station” and becoming a household name as Adonis Creed in the “Creed” franchise, Jordan solidified himself as a lead actor in the blockbuster phenomenon, “Black Panther.”

And we cannot forget the most recent leading…actually double leading role in “Sinners.” This movie won Michael the Academy Award for Best Actor. “Sinners” was his biggest success to date, earning praise for his dual performance and proving he can take on bold, original movies.

The Movie

Michael B. Jordan continues to steal hearts, but this time around, he’ll be stealing priceless art, too.

The actor is stepping behind the camera once again to direct and star in a new adaptation of “The Thomas Crown Affair.” The project marks Jordan’s second directorial effort after the success of “Creed III” in 2023, proving he’s just as comfortable calling the shots as he is being in the shots.

“The Thomas Crown Affair” has long been a Hollywood favorite. The original film debuted in 1968, starring Steve McQueen as the charismatic Thomas Crown and Fay Dunaway as insurance investigator Vicki Anderson. The original crime film follows Thomas Crown as he tries to pull off one of the biggest money heists…a multi-million-dollar bank heist, to be exact. But he meets his match when an attractive insurance investigator tries to get her man, but instead, gets her man.

The film earned an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for the classic, “The Windmills of Your Mind.”

More than three decades later, the story returned to theaters in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan taking over the title role alongside Rene Russo. This adaptation follows a wealthy, sophisticated playboy whose favorite pastime isn’t golfing or collecting luxury cars—it’s orchestrating elaborate heists for prized artwork. Everything goes according to plan until a brilliant, captivating insurance investigator begins to close in on his scheme. The cat-and-mouse games quickly turn into the question of whether Crown will be caught in his crime, or caught in love?

While the remake didn’t receive the same level of award recognition as its predecessor, it proved to be the bigger commercial success at the box office. The film earned the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actor (Pierce Brosnan) and Favorite Supporting Actor (Denise Leary).

‘Stakes Are Higher’

Now, Michael B. Jordan has the opportunity to introduce a new generation of suave. In the third adaptation, Michael’s character is going up against a former FBI agent, played by Adria Arjona, who has been tracking Crown’s heists. But here is where the stakes go higher: Crown’s motive is to return artifacts to their rightful place, not take them for himself. In November, Jordan shared his vision for the film with Variety. “I didn’t want a reboot. I wanted a reimagination. The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today,” he said.

Drew Pearce wrote the film. Alan Trustman, the original writer, will be an executive producer on the upcoming film.

With Michael’s recent string of successes and growing fandom, this stylish heist may steal more than priceless paintings. We’ll have to see if it can steal the spotlight at the box office. Perhaps add a couple more awards to his collection. I suggest you hide all of your valuables and get ready for what’s to come. This is going to be one thief audience members will be cheering for.

“The Thomas Crown Affair” will sneak into theaters March 5, 2027. Take a look at the official trailer below.
