Spring Into Cinema: 10 Must-See Movies To Watch This April

It’s always a delight to have something good to look forward to in these turbulent, uncertain times. March brought much film discourse and new releases, some lived up to the expectations and others fell short. In April, we anticipate a promising lineup ranging from a supernatural western to a fresh spin on 1950s romance. These are 10 movies you should watch this April.

1. Freaky Tales (April 4)

We’ve seen a lot of Pedro Pascal in the past year, and we’re ready to see more. Pascal joins Ben Andelson and Jay Ellis in this film following four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, CA.

2. A Minecraft Movie (April 4)

Hear me out! I know not everything needs to be a movie, and that’s exactly what I thought when the A “Minecraft Movie” trailer played in the theater when I went to see “Wicked.” But, I have to admit that the more I see of this movie, the more fun it seems. Much like the “Jumanji” franchise, “A Minecraft Movie” will follow a group of misfits as they try to find their way back home from a bizarre cubic world. Like the latest “Jumanji” installations, the cast includes Jack Black, accompanied by Jason Momoa, Jeniffer Coolidge and Emma Myers, among other talents.

3. A Nice Indian Boy (April 4)

When Naveen brings his white adopted boyfriend to meet his traditional Indian family, they must learn to push through their prejudice and help the couple plan the Indian wedding of their dreams.

4. Drop (April 11)

The director of “Happy Death Day” uses more modern phobias like heights and first dates. In “Drop”, a widowed mother, in the middle of a first date, starts receiving messages threatening her son’s life if she doesn’t comply with a series of requests from the perpetrator.

5. Sacramento (April 11)

A man convinces his long-time friend to go on an impromptu road trip from Los Angeles to Sacramento. This movie’s promising cast includes Micahel Cera, Kristen Stewart and Michael Angarano.

6. The Amateur (April 11)

In this spy action film, Rami Malek plays a brilliant CIA agent who blackmails his agency into letting him go after the terrorists responsible for his wife’s death.

7. The King of Kings

Kenneth Branagh plays Charles Dickens as he tells the story of Jesus Christ to his son. This animated film will include performances from Oscar Isaac as Jesus, Pierce Brosnan as Pontious Pilate and Uma Thurman as Catherine Dickens.

8. Sinners (April 18)

One Michael B. Jordan is great, but two are amazing. In this vampire western, the actor plays twin brothers returning to their hometown in an attempt to leave their troubled past behind, only to find that their home is plagued by an evil greater than they could’ve imagined.

9. The Shrouds (April 25)

Vincent Cassel plays a widowed businessman who creates a machine to communicate with the dead. The rest of the cast includes Diane Kruger, Guy Peerce and Sandrine Holt.

10. On Swift Horses (April 25)

Based on the 2019 novel of the same name, “On Swift Horses” is set in the 1950s and follows Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her husband Lee (Will Poulter) as they navigate the post-war west and the arrival of Lee’s charismatic brother (Jacob Elordi). The film promises to be a life-changing travesty through a changing culture.
