3. Patagonia

If you need a reason to press the “Confirm Purchase” button in your Patagonia cart, please take this as a sign. Patagonia is a leader in fashion sustainability and one of the most well-known outdoor clothing and gear brands. Their commitment to social and ethical responsibilities is demonstrated through support for grassroots groups, reusable and resellable gear, acknowledgment of the ongoing climate crisis, and donating their sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.

Patagonia uses 80% of recycled inputs for 99% of its products. They plan to have 100% of their packaging recycled or easily recyclable. Moreover, the company aims to achieve 100% renewable energy across all its stores, offices and distribution centers to reduce its product transportation footprint. Patagonia is certainly a brand that cares about the well-being of customers and the planet on which they exist.

@patagonia

Why Recycled? Extracting and processing virgin materials takes a toll on the land, water and air. To do our part, Patagonia is moving toward 100% renewable and recycled raw materials. By using both synthetic and natural fibers made from pre-consumer and postconsumer waste, we are limiting our dependence on raw materials and reducing carbon emissions. #sprite #green #fleece #film

5. Hope For Flowers

Keeping it close to the culture, Hope For Flowers is a Black-owned brand founded by Tracy Reese. Hope For Flowers, sold in American retailers across many states, offers beautiful women’s clothing. Perfect for any occasion and definitely perfect for the planet. CEO Reese spent over 30 years in the fashion industry and decided to conceive Hope For Flowers under the initiative that when we know better, we do better. Applying that same logic to her brand, she embraced responsible, ethical practices, starting with environmental sustainability.

Hope For Flowers uses three pillars. The first pillar is conscious design. Designs are essential in fashion, but so are eco-friendly measures. Reese practices digital printing, which is healthier for the environment. The brand’s website states, “Digital printing is more environmentally friendly than traditional printing because it uses less ink and can be done on demand, allowing us to print the quantities we need without high minimums, reducing waste. We use only OEKO-TEX certified inks, so no harmful chemicals are used during the printing and dyeing of our textiles.”

Secondly, Hope For Flowers adheres to community art in Detroit. Community outreach is a priority for the brand. Hope For Flowers even offers free creative evening and weekend programs for Detroit locals.

The third pillar is partnerships. Hope For Flowers partners with NEST Craft Coalition, Scarlet Crane, Pottery Barn and Naturalizer. Each partnership serves different purposes; however, all are under the goal of saving and making the planet healthier and more eco-friendly.
