Streaming who? We’re so back, and movie studios are pulling up, walking to the front of the theater lines like rent’s due. Gracing the box office with wins after wins, it’s safe to say that in the United States and Canada, the theaters aren’t going anywhere. So grab your popcorn, take your seats and keep the movie tickets coming. Here’s a list of movie studios that won big at the box office, according to a 2025 summary from the-numbers.com.
1. Walt Disney Studios
At the top of the leaderboard, Walt Disney Studios scored a victory at the box office. Generating more than $1.95 billion domestically, Disney catered to audiences of all ages this year. From nostalgic animated characters to continuing plotlines featuring superheroes, every release stood out. The live remake of Lilo & Stitch was a significant win for Disney. It reignited memories for many people and created new memories for the little ones. The movie pulled in about $423.7 million domestically. As impressive as that is, it doesn’t stop there, as “Zootopia” returned to theaters with its sequel, “Zootopia 2″, and generated over $282 million domestically. Other Disney-produced movies that saw huge box-office success were “The Fantastic Four: The First Steps”, “Captain America: Brave New World”, “Thunderbolts” and “Freakier Friday.”
2. Warner Bros. Studios
Ranking second domestically in 2025 box office profits, Warner Bros. studio had a pivotal year. Not too far behind Disney, Warner Bros. brought in approximately $1.86 billion domestically. Holding the title for the highest-grossing movie in 2025, “A Minecraft Movie” was the studio’s most profitable release. The movie kept fans entertained and running to theaters to see it. So much so that it made $423.9 million in the United States and Canada alone. Other noteworthy movies from Warner Bros. include action-packed films like “Superman” and “F1: The Movie,” and horror titles like “Sinners” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites.”
3. Universal Pictures
Universal landed in third place, making its impact on the box office. Widely recognized for its legendary “Jurassic Park” film series, Universal revived the franchise this year with the release of “Jurassic World Rebirth” in July, which grossed $339 million domestically. “Wicked: For Good” was also a hit in the theaters thanks to heavy promotion. The must-see musical grossed $331 million domestically this year. Overall, Universal Pictures made roughly $1.56 billion. They also released the most movies this year among studios, with 28 releases.
4. Sony Pictures
If you’re an anime lover, I’m sure you may know that Sony Pictures had its hands on one of the biggest anime movie releases this year. Ranking fourth, Sony Pictures earned $548.5 million at the domestic box office. “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” was Sony’s prized possession this year, generating over $134.3 million with an average of 11.8 million tickets sold. Sony also played a part in one of the coolest and most charming family films involving an animated bear as the main character. “Paddington in Peru”, a live-action remake, was full of adventure and comical relief. Horror film “28 Years Later” was also a hit for Sony. Combining survival instincts with horror and health, this movie intrigued fans. We can’t leave out the legendary Jackie Chan, who starred in this year’s release of “Karate Kid: Legends”, a nostalgic moment for fans of the “Karate Kid” series.
5. Paramount Pictures
Trailing directly behind Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures isn’t too far off. The studio’s total domestic gross this year was about $545.2 million. Their biggest film was an action movie, “Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning”, which grossed 197.5 million. They also had a hit with “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” $236 million domestically.
6. Lionsgate
While many of you may recognize Lionsgate from the bold letters surrounded by clouds at the beginning of their films, this year Lionsgate proved they can still make the list. Involved with “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t”, this film marked the third movie from this franchise distributed by Lionsgate. “From the Word of John Wick: Ballerina” was also a memorable Lionsgate movie. The action and thrills throughout this movie had fans across the country scrambling to their movie theater seats. Lionsgate earned $321.3 million at the domestic box office.
7. 20th Century Studios
Releasing the least amount of movies in comparison to this entire list, 20th Century Studios still had a successful year. Recognized for their famous drums and horns upon revealing their logo, 20th Century Studios will always belong on our screens. After earning $416.6 million at the box office, their most recent movie, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” was released on December 19 and has already made an estimated $217.7 million. “Predator: Badlands” is also one of their biggest films, grossing over $90 million.
8. A24
Ranking number nine, A24 distributed 20 movies over the course of a year and made $220 million. Some of their released movies include “Materialists”, a movie exploring relationships, both current and past, and “Warfare”, a movie about fighting for survival in a series of turning events. Each of these movies grossed at least $25 million.
9. Focus Features
Don’t overlook Focus Features because they have some very interesting movies, and this year was nothing short of great despite their ranking. Making $211.8 million at the box office, films like “Nosferatu” took viewers down a dark hole of suspense and horror. “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” was a hit for Focus Features, grossing around $45 million and ranking as the studio’s second-highest domestic box-office success of 2025.
10. Angel Studios
This studio may not have pulled the same numbers as the others in this list, but that doesn’t mean triumph wasn’t attached to their name. Angel Studios also tied with 20th Century Studios with 10 releases, and made $159.1 million at the box office. Their most recognized movies include the drama “The King of Kings” and the musical “David.”
