Dan Schneider’s Behavior at Nickelodeon Exposed in Docuseries

Dan Schneider was exposed for inappropriate behavior during his time at Nickelodeon, in a new HBO docuseries. The docuseries, “Quiet On Set” features a number of former child stars and staff who worked for the network. Within the four episodes that are available to stream on Max, former child stars including Giovonnie Samuels from “All That” and Alexa Nikolas from “Zoey 101” recount their experiences working in a toxic work environment. Additionally, the stars rewatch scenes aired on Nickelodeon that have sexual innuendos, despite the network being for children. Even though this is not the first time former child stars have called out Schneider, this series hits different.

Nikolas has a history of protesting outside of Nickelodeon’s office. Similarly, Jennette McCurdy from “iCarly” has spoken out on her traumatic experience while working for Nickelodeon.

Within the docuseries, staff and former stars accuse Schneider of making female staff uncomfortable. Additionally, they accuse him of asking cast members and staff to give him massages. These are just to name a few of the accusations made against him.

To say that watching the series is uncomfortable, is an understatement. Learning about the discomfort and abuse on set is heartbreaking and unsettling.

Steve Burns, most famously known for his role as Steve on the hit children show, “Blue’s Clues”, recently posted a check-in on TikTok. His fans speculate the timing of his post is no coincidence. Burns posted a check-in video to his followers on TikTok shortly after the release of the docuseries.

Due to Burn’s significant impact on so many of our childhoods, his check-in comes with a sense of comfort and trust.

Moving forward we are left to process the information from the series. Additionally, we are trying to understand our childhood now from a new lense.

In doing so, we also have to reevaluate our willingness to believe children. More specifically, we must listen to working children when they speak out. Schneider is one example of numerous people of power who take advantage of children.

There are many former stars who choose to stay quiet. Hopefully, through this docuseries, more people regardless of age will feel comfortable to come forward and share their stories.
