5 Celebrities Druski Should Roast at the BET Awards as This Year’s Host

Comedian and viral content creator Drew Desbordes, aka Druwski, will host this year’s BET Awards, airing live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 28 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. The 31-year-old will be the youngest person to host the BET Awards in the show’s 25-year history, surpassing Kevin Hart.

“I grew up watching the BET Awards,” Druski said in a statement. “To know the comedic legends that hosted before me set the bar so high, I’m just grateful to be a part of the history. But I’m still bringing my brand of comedy to the stage.” Druski is known for his improv comedy sketches that have often been deemed controversial.

Druski’s Erika Kirk Sketch

Back in March, Druski broke the internet with his Erika Kirk parody. Erika is the widow of the late Charlie Kirk, who was the co-founder and face of Turning Point USA, an organization that advocated for conservative politics on high school and college campuses.

Slipping into a blonde wig and transforming himself with foundation and Erika’s signature heavy eyeliner, Druski fully embodied Erika Kirk, right down to her unsettling glare and awkward speaking pattern.

His video with the caption, “How Conservative Women in America Act,” didn’t mention Erika’s name directly, but there was an uncanny resemblance to how Druski captured Erika’s public “grieving” and media interviews. The video received over 120 million views and even caught the attention of Erika Kirk herself.

The Response to Druski’s Erika Kirk-Eseque Skit

On X, Erika briefly addressed the Druski skit as she described living through a “literal hell” the past seven months after her husband Charlie was assassinated. “I have comedians dressing up in white face,” Erika mentioned, along with other backlash she has received. Contrary to rumors, Erika never sent Druski a cease-and-desist.

The claim began when activist and writer Zellie Imani @ZellieImani shared a now-deleted post stating that Erika had sent a cease-and-desist letter and was “gearing up to sue him.” The post hit nearly 1 million views, and despite its deletion, screenshots circulated online, adding fuel to the rumor mill.

President Donald Trump even chimed in during an Easter lunch event at the White House after Druski’s video went viral, suggesting Erika sue Druski. “You’re doing well, right?” Trump seemingly said to Erika. “Okay. I think you should sue him. But you know what? I told her, you ought to sue some of these. They’re so jealous of Erika,” Trump said.

Trump also continued stating, “I said, you ought to sue. I can say it, you’re not allowed to say this, you have to be nicer: sue their ass off.”

Newsweek finally put the rumors to rest with a fact-check article in which a Druski representative confirmed the claim was false. In an email, the representative said, “Any claim that a cease and desist was issued to Druski is absolutely false.”

Even though Druski has received no legal repercussions, he has received plenty of online hate and criticism for repeatedly dressing up in “white face.” Before the conservative women sketch, Druski’s makeup artist transformed him into a stereotypical NASCAR fan, complete with a mullet haircut and overalls.

What Druski Brings to the Table With His Skits

What some viewers fail to recognize is that Druski’s comedy is rooted in social commentary and satire, and he is simply taking a mirror and showing us what is already right in front of us.

My favorite Druski sketch is Mega Church Pastors Love Money.” The title is explanatory.

As the host for this year’s BET Awards, we expect Druski to bring the same audacious and boundary-pushing energy he delivers on social media to the awards show.

We created a list of five people Druskin needs to joke about during The BET Awards.

Druski’s Potential Victims at the BET Awards

1. Kevin Hart

Netflix recently released “The Roast of Kevin Hart.” Viewers had mixed reactions to the show, ranging from underwhelming to outright disgust with Tony Hinchcliffe’s George Floyd joke. We’re confident that Druski’s relationship with Hart will give him plenty of material to make up for the disappointing roast. Druski and Hart have developed a comedic relationship over the years and were featured at last year’s BET Awards. They also worked together with streamer Kai Cenat on Twitch and YouTube.

2. Joe Jackson

Michael Jackson’s father, the late Joe Jackson, doesn’t receive enough criticism for how he treated his children. The “Michael” movie explored how he used physical and emotional abuse to push his children into stardom. Some may argue that without Joe’s strict discipline and guidance, Michael would have never become the King of Pop. But there is a thin line between pushing your children towards success and stripping them of their personal autonomy for your own gain. We’ve seen this many times in the film.

One moment that particularly stood out was when Michael was severely burned during the taping of a 1984 Pepsi commercial. Michael initially did not want to do the commercial, but, as usual, the soft-spoken musician gave in to his father’s demands. During the commercial taping, a pyrotechnic malfunction sent sparks into Michael’s hair. Unaware at first, Michael continued to dance until seconds later, his head was engulfed in flames. Michael was rushed to the hospital for severe burns and hair loss. While Michael was placed in the critical burn unit, the first question Joe asked the doctor was how long Michael would be in the hospital because he had a tour to do.

3. Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom is another celebrity who doesn’t receive enough hate. His documentary on Netflix, “Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom,” takes a deep dive into his life from his early NBA career to his tumultuous relationship with Khloe Kardashian and the infamous 2015 incident at a Nevada brothel where Odom was found unresponsive after binging on opiates, cocaine, alcohol and herbal sexual stimulants. While Odom was in a coma for several days, his estranged wife Khloé Kardashian stayed by his side, caring for him.

Prior to the incident, Khloe filed for divorce after catching Odom cheating with another woman. Khloe was one of the few people, if not the only people, who helped Odom during his recovery. According to Khloé, Lamar’s father, Joe Odom, assumed he was his son’s beneficiary and wanted to take Lamar off life support to access his insurance/inheritance. “I remember walking in around that time, and I kid you not, it was a scene out of a movie. And I was like, ‘Sorry, Joe. I’m still his wife. What do you need?’’ Khloe recounts in the documentary.  She went on to say that Joe asked her for a pair of Nikes, $100 and a hotel room for the night, which she gave him. Afterward, Khloe said Joe never came back to the hospital.

Lamar denied Khloe’s claims, and in the documentary, he said it was God that kept him alive, not necessarily Khloe.  Besides being ungrateful towards his wife, Lamar also didn’t appreciate the second chance at life he got. Months after his coma, Khloe caught him doing drugs again.

Lamar Odom is not someone who learns from his mistakes, and the Netflix special shows that he is a selfish, egotistical person who used Khloe Kardashian for her Hollywood status and for her emotional and physical labor. If you’re looking for a good redemption story, you won’t find it in Lamar Odom’s documentary.

4. Nick Cannon

Father’s Day is right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than to highlight serial baby daddy Nick Cannon. The actor and comedian, currently or at least to our knowledge, has 12 children with six different mothers. We’re curious to know whether all of his kids come together to celebrate the day, or if Cannon makes his rounds to each mother’s house to collect his gifts and spend 15 to 30 minutes with each child. For a man with a football team’s worth of kids, Father’s Day seems to be more of a press tour than a relaxing holiday.

5. Nicki Minaj

The once highly regarded “Queen of Rap,” known for her dynamic flow, versatility across genres, and bold style, has now been demoted to MAGA supporter. Some of her fans or former barbz are shocked by her rebranding. But if you listen to the lyrics from her previous songs, Minaj has dropped hints that she is not a Democrat. In her verse of Lil Wayne’s remix of  the 2012 song “Mercy”, Minaj says, “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney.” She also directly mentioned MAGA in the 2023 song “Endless Fashion” by Lil Uzi Vert. “I got a Republican doctor. Made my ass great again MAGA,” Minaj sings.

Despite being a Trinidadian immigrant who has spoken about coming to the United States undocumented as a child, Minaj has openly praised President Donald Trump and even referred to herself as his “number one fan” during a D.C summit.

Besides her hypocrisy, Druski can also joke about Minaj’s long list of beefs with other female artists, including Cardi B, Latto and of course, Megan Thee Stallion. We can’t forget about Minaj’s diss track “Big Foot” in response. One comment received 30,000 likes, stating “Her at the end is me adding extra words so my argument essay can reach the word limit.”
