The Category Is: 2025 Met Gala’s Best Red Carpet Looks

“They done f–ked up and made the Met Ball Black,” declares iconic image architect Law Roach ahead of tonight’s 2025 Met Gala, a star-studded celebration of Black Dandyism.

The theme, “Tailored For You,” draws from the Met’s spring exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style“, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s Slaves to Fashion. It explores the intersection of Black style and dandyism dating from the 18th century.

“God created Black people and Black people created style,” said co-chair Colman Domingo at a press conference, quoting playwright George C. Wolfe.

Joining him and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour as co-chairs are F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, and Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director Pharrell Williams. Honorary co-chair LeBron James bowed out earlier today, citing a knee injury on X.

This year’s Gala is historic: the first to spotlight only Black designers, and the first menswear-led theme in over two decades. Nearly 450 guests—from fashion legends to cultural powerhouses—are attending the invite-only event, where a golden ticket costs $75,000. Met CEO Max Hollein announced a record-breaking $31 million raised for the Costume Institute, the most in its 77-year history.
