Losing a loved one is life-altering and when you add in the element of the holidays it can be downright paralyzing and celebrities are no different.  On November 14, 2018, Kim Porter, who Diddy describes as his "Soulmate" died leaving behind four children.  Kim was just 47 years old.  She is being laid to rest in Columbus, GA just two days after Thanksgiving.  Diddy took to Twitter today and shared a prayer from a year ago that we all felt.  During times like this sometimes all we can muster is "God help us" which is what Diddy offered to the world last year.  This year we join him in prayer because in the end loss is no respecter of person.

I remember Tyler Perry saying that grief comes in waves.  You may feel absolutely fine one minute and the next minute you may feel yourself drowning in memories as you prepare for the holiday.  But remember God is with you, always.  So take time to pause and breathe releasing the need to fix or make things perfect.  God does that.

When you are ready you may consider honoring and celebrating the life of that special person with the following:

  •      Make their signature dish
  •      Create a video of special moments like Diddy did for Kim Porter
  •      Light candles or gather around a firepit in solidarity like the Bordelon family did on Queen Sugar.
  •      Break the tradition and try something new.  Take a cruise or skip the holiday altogether while you tend to yourself

This list is not exhaustive so if you would like to share how you spent your first holiday without your loved one please share in the comments below.
