I landed in San Francisco at 12:30pm pacific time. I take an Uber to the Peerspace studio I booked in South of Market. If you are from the Bay Area, you know what I only found out upon my arrival, and that is, that SOM might just be the worst area in San Francisco I could have picked. I get inside the studio, only to feel like Aston Kutcher had punked me. The photos online looked a lot better than the space. But the show must go on and thanks to my bomb make-up artist Angelica things begin to look up. Or so I thought...

My natural hair journey was met with much resistance. I never thought in a million years I would stop getting relaxers. In fact, I took a pretty adamant stance against it. I had been getting them since around age five. Then one summer my brother and sister-in-love came to visit and I was floored by my sister’s beautiful and healthy hair. I asked her secret and she told me she had gone natural. She was wearing it straight at the time, but said she experienced tremendous growth since her transition. I was skeptical about how my hair would look both in its natural state and straightened without a relaxer, but she really encouraged me. “Sis, you don’t need it,” she told me. That next summer, I decided to give it a go.

From countless murders of unarmed black men and women by police officers who do not face the justice they should, to unfair treatment given to white Americans who protest verses when black Americans protest. In light of a system that seems to all but failed Black Americans there is an increase in the number of black female attorneys, so we decided to get the perspective of one incredibly intelligent and passionate attorney Alexis Gonzalez. She is an attorney for fortune 500 company and shared with us the importance of taking the law into our own hands.
