Why God Won’t Leave You Alone

And Why He Never Will...

By Cherisse Cannon

I remember the day. It marked a month since I’ve felt like I wanted to quit being a Christian. Hopefully you’re not in the judgmental mood right now, because this article is terribly transparent. I had been consistently using my faith but constant sweepings of loneliness, abandonment, and disappointment had rested on me every morning as his mercies do everyday. Finally, I was fed up. “God! I’m tired” were my everyday thoughts for a long time. God if you don’t come through, I quit is what I managed to threaten him with almost everyday. Every time I tried to quit, there he was. Doing something to pull me back. Reminding me of his love and faithfulness even when mine failed. “God why won’t you just leave me alone and let me do this on my own?” I didn’t want anything to do with him anymore. My perspective made me assume I was doing bad with him why wouldn’t he just leave me so that I can do bad all by myself? “Why couldn’t you just make this easy? Why did you make me knowing that on too many occasions I’d fail you? Why God?” Have you ever just been so angry, so disappointed, and confused that you don’t want anymore of God? Because the more you want him, the less he seems to come through? The harder you go for him, the more difficult your life becomes? Have you ever given up on God, but he keeps sending little reminders that he hasn’t given up on you? It’s like, you want to walk away, but he just keeps following you? Your sin won’t even stop him from loving you? “God stop loving me! I’m not worth your time, I’m not worth you effort, just leave me alone and stop wasting your goodness on me!” I cried. Hopeless. “I quit God, so why don’t you?” Somehow in that moment, I felt his presence closer than ever. By then, I’d accepted that he wasn’t going to leave me alone, but why not? Who was I to him that even when I hate him he hugs me closer?

Here are some reasons why God won’t leave you alone and why you giving up on him means nothing because he’ll always want you.

God is a God of community

When God began to Create everything as we know it, if you read closely, you’ll see that he says, “let US make” when he comes to the point where he created humans. Us, indicates that he was not alone, ad since we are made in his image, then that shows that we are not meant to be alone. So even when it seems friends and family have left us, he is still there.

“Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."”

Genesis 1:26 ESV

He SAID he’d never leave or forsake you.

God CANNOT lie. He says in his word, that he will never leave or forsake us. If he said this and he cannot lie, then that is the truth PERIOD. He is always near you.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you."”

Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV

“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?”

Numbers 23:19 ESV

There is purpose on your life

God cannot leave you alone because your testimony is not just for you. It’s for the souls of many more people. If he gave up on you, how many people would fail to see his goodness through you?

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

4.He knows you can’t do it by yourself

You may feel like you’re doing bad now, but think about what chaos would erupt if God took his hand off of you? How would life be without a comforter? Our very being comes from God, and without him wouldn’t even be doing life!

“for "'In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, "'For we are indeed his offspring.'”

Acts 17:28 ESV

He is everywhere at the same time

God is omnipresent which means he is everywhere and with everyone at the same time. So being with you is inevitable!

“Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.”

Jeremiah 23:24 ESV

He loves you!

God bought you with the highest price! He owns us as his children and because of this, he cannot leave you alone! He loves you so much that he gave what was most valuable to him, his son. God loves you and nothing can separate you from that, this is why God will always be there. This is why he will not EVER leave you alone!

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,”

1 Corinthians 6:19 ESV

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:35, 38-39 ESV

You’re always going to feel that tugging in your heart, deep down inside, and in the back of your head. God is not there to annoy you, but to keep you alive, to serve you with an everlasting love. Even in your times of anger, know that his plan is perfect even when we are not. If you were where I was, wanting God to just take his presence away because you feel that being saved isn’t fulfilling, because your prayers aren’t being answered, or even if you are struggling to even believe, I want you to trust again. God is constant and even though your circumstances are disappointing, he is not. He loves you and for that reason he is obligated to ALWAYS be around for you. Just believe!
