Why "I'm Only Human" Is Not A Good Excuse

If there were truly a thin line between love and hate it would equal the distance of how humans view their own humanity. Humanity speaking to how we see others and how we see ourselves is evident through how we are depicted on television and movies, the things we see great value in and in the phrases we use concerning it. Someone once said sarcasm is the only time people tell the truth. So maybe all these phrases we use a true picture of the way we see human beings. Not to far fetch in a world that claims dog is mans best friend and diamonds are a girl’s best friends, more phrases that may tell the story of how we see humanity.

The 2016 Rio Olympics were historic!! From the representation of black and brown girls to the dominance of the same, especially in the gymnastic field. Some names that may stick out to you are Gabby Douglas, Simone Blies and Laurie Hernandez. It was an incredible display of perfection and poise. 
Team USA was surely well represented, but even more represented were every black and brown girl around the globe for they had just witness a breakthrough.  We had the distinct pleasure of sitting down to talk with Gold medalist Laurie Hernandez as we go over this entire journey she has embarked upon, the balance the breaking and the breakthrough, read on…spoiler Alert you may learn, you may laugh but if nothing else you will find out why we are flipping over Laurie Hernandez and you will too.

Have you ever seen someone who thought they were ugly and thought them crazy for the thought? Do you or have you ever considered yourself unattractive?  By what standard have we built to measure what is ugly? When it comes to outer appearance the most famous line in history is that “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.” What that really means is that beauty and ugly can be tough to define.

Being from Philly, I watched Rocky a lot. I mean, I watched it more than little kids watch you eat. He was left handed just as I am and he was a fighter; literally and figuratively. The one thing about being a big a Rocky fan as I was, is that it pained you deeply to see him take a beating or to lose. And in every Rocky movie he would take a beaten or lose. We hate seeing our heroes lose, but if you watched enough Rocky you always knew at some point they would cue the music and he would get back up and be victorious.There are life lessons to be learned in seeing our heroes take a beaten, and there is hope to believe they will get back up and be victorious.

When we were kids we had plenty of opportunities to gain new friends. Our parent’s friend’s children would come over and we be forced against our will to share our toys with them. Somehow that tug a war over Bret the Hit Man Hart action figure turned into a bond. We had neighbors we would play freeze tag with and a cool unspoken friendship was formed when they unfroze you.
