Bullets ricocheted off of each locker – each pelt of the metal echoed across the crowded hallways. Each scream, each whisper, each plea for mercy echoed within that small space. We can turn the channel. We can turn a blind eye. However, we can’t stop the questions – we can’t stop the gnawing at our souls that dares us to do more than simply say a quick prayer and add a somber social media status. We’re challenged by their stories and we’re changed by their lives. Or are we?

There are times when to understand or appreciate something so genuinely exceptional, you have to had witnessed the absolute worse. There is no question the lack of representation of black people in high profile roles in Hollywood has been as of late, well documented. By the year 2016, only 32 African Americans have even won an Oscar, and only four times was it for leading Actor and only once for best actress.

Have you seen Star Wars The Last Jedi?

It is the latest addition in the epic Skywalker saga in the Star Wars universe.

The movie is visually appealing, full of beautiful color choice, unique looking creatures, fun new planets to explore, and thought-provoking scenes between our heroes and newcomers.  For those of you who are late to the party on the Millennium Falcon, the previous film Star Wars The Force Awakens brought us back to the galaxy far, far, away. Where a new hero and new antagonist had emerged with whom the force has become awaken in.

Being from Philly, I watched Rocky a lot. I mean, I watched it more than little kids watch you eat. He was left handed just as I am and he was a fighter; literally and figuratively. The one thing about being a big a Rocky fan as I was, is that it pained you deeply to see him take a beating or to lose. And in every Rocky movie he would take a beaten or lose. We hate seeing our heroes lose, but if you watched enough Rocky you always knew at some point they would cue the music and he would get back up and be victorious.There are life lessons to be learned in seeing our heroes take a beaten, and there is hope to believe they will get back up and be victorious.
